If the home is desolate, the husband must provide a companion for his wife, and it is his right to designate this companion. If the husband's mother is to stay with the wife during his absence, the wife still has no right to leave without her husband's permission. If she does so, she is disobedient (nashiz). The husband can explain his rights to his wife, or he can involve wise people to persuade her. He may also permit her to stay overnight at her family's home during his absence, provided no corruption results from it.
