The question

Is the questioner considered disobedient to her parents due to the naturally loud nature of her voice, in light of her father's intense anger, his cursing, swearing, and sometimes praying against her, and her rejection of some of his actions, knowing that she is religiously committed, while her parents are not?

The answer

Anger and irritability are harmful, and good lies in forbearance and deliberation. Irritability is especially unfitting for a father, as he is an educator who needs calmness when guiding his children. Your patience with your father is required, along with supplicating for him and advising him kindly regarding prayer and smoking. The same applies to your mother concerning her negligence in prayer. The advice can come from you or from someone who influences them. The ill-treatment of parents does not nullify their right to dutifulness, and raising your voice at your father is an act of disobedience (ʿUqūq), which is a grave mistake. You must repent from that and be a role model in goodness. Occupy yourself with what benefits you, and join Quranic circles and gatherings of good.
