Is a person who drank alcohol three weeks before Ramadan, but did not become intoxicated—even if the amount was less than half a glass—forbidden from praying and fasting? And is it permissible for him to fast Ramadan after his repentance and remorse?

Drinking alcohol is a major sin. Repentance from it requires remorse, immediate cessation, and a firm resolve not to return to it. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed the one who drinks alcohol and the one who assists in it. Furthermore, drinking alcohol results in the prayers of the drinker not being accepted for forty days, as a punishment and deterrent, not as an annulment of the prayer obligation. The matter worsens if drinking alcohol is repeated after repentance.

The validity of the prayer and fasting of one who drinks alcohol remains as long as they are aware of what they are saying and intending, but Allah does not accept the reward for these acts from them.
