Is the fast of a girl who drank alcohol right before Ramadan valid, given that one of the sisters told her that her fast is rejected and that she must wait 40 days for her prayers and fasting to be accepted?

Intoxicants are among the gravest sins and the mother of all evils. They are an abomination, a work of Satan, that reduce their drinker to the state of madness, sow enmity and hatred, and turn people away from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer.

Allah Almighty has warned against them in the Holy Quran, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed the one who drinks it, the one who serves it, and the one who sells it. The Prophet also likened the chronic alcoholic to an idol worshipper, and informed that a chronic alcoholic will not enter Paradise, and that his prayers will not be accepted for forty days as a punishment for him, even if this does not imply invalidity of the prayer itself. As for fasting, it is also not accepted from a drinker of intoxicants as a form of deterrent punishment.

A Muslim must repent from drinking intoxicants and persevere in prayer and fasting. For whoever repents, Allah will accept his repentance and his deeds.
