What is the ruling on the supplication: "O Allah, I ask You for intimacy in Your proximity"?
There is no harm in a servant asking his Lord for intimacy with Him, for this means intimacy with His remembrance, the recitation of His Book, His obedience, His love, and the love of His law. As for disobeying Him, that brings desolation. Intimacy with Allah is knowledge and the Quran. The one who possesses this intimacy is in an expedited paradise, and that is by knowing Allah, loving Him, and feeling intimate with Him. A servant must strive against his soul to abandon the superfluous desires and follies of the self, for the knowledge of Allah, His love, the sweetness of His remembrance, and intimacy with Him cannot coexist in a heart filled with the hounds of desires and their images.
