What is my relationship with my Lord? And what is my relationship with my family?

A Muslim's relationship with his Lord is based on loving Him, glorifying Him, and affirming His Oneness through all acts of worship, believing in His Names and Attributes, and obeying Him in what He has commanded and forbidden. Allah the Almighty says: "And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me" (Quran 51:56). And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, the right of Allah upon His servants is that they worship Him and not associate anything with Him."

As for the relationship with family, the rights of parents are great, encompassing kindness, righteousness, honor, care, and love. Allah has conjoined His right with theirs, as He the Almighty says: "Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, and to parents, show good treatment" (Quran 4:36). The child's right upon his parents is to be disciplined, educated, advised, treated kindly, and for justice to be observed among siblings. Siblings have the right to love, kindness, and protection from harm.
