Will Allah be angry with me if I postpone the receipt of the dowry agreed upon with my husband, which my mother requested against my will, knowing that this postponement will make things easier for my husband and will not hinder him in forming a family and completing the marriage?

The mahr (dowry) is a right of the woman, and no one has the right to waive it except with her consent. She has the right to demand it or to forgo all or part of it.

The mother does not have the right to determine the mahr or to obstruct the marriage and threaten her daughter if she delays receiving the mahr.

Among the reasons for the blessing in marriage is facilitating the mahr and reducing expenses, and it is recommended to assist the husband in this regard.

The mother’s anger without just cause is not to be considered and has no effect. The will to prevent the daughter from attending a funeral is not permissible. However, the mother must be discussed with, politely and gently, and one must be keen on showing her dutifulness.
