Are we living in the time of tribulation (balābil) mentioned in the Hadith, and is abundant supplication beneficial during this time?

Scholars have differed in interpreting the hadith: some believe it refers to the time of Umayyad rule, while others believe it pertains to the End of Times with the appearance of the Mahdi. One should not rush to apply prophecies of great battles (malāhim) to current events. Hadiths about tribulations (fitan) do not call for abandoning righteous deeds; rather, a Muslim must continue to do good and supplicate, for supplication is beneficial at all times and in all places, especially during times of tribulations and great battles.
