What are the ethics of tribulations that a Muslim should embody if he perceives a time of tribulation?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

To deal with tribulations (fitan) without being negatively affected, one must embody the following virtues:

1. Deliberation, gentleness, forbearance, and avoiding haste: This enables one to see things as they truly are, for gentleness adorns everything.

2. Patience (sabr): This is essential during tribulations, as it distinguishes between those with resolve and high aspirations and those who are cowardly and weak. Its reward is like that of one holding a burning ember.

3. Justice and fairness: Especially during times of tribulations, as their absence causes disagreement. Justice in words and deeds brings salvation, by Allah's permission.
