Is it permissible for children to put their father's money under their guardianship—a father who is over eighty, possesses great wealth, pays little zakat, does not help his needy children, and is even miserly with himself and his wife?

The man's children must treat him kindly and advise him gently, encouraging him to do good and warning him against evil with wisdom. They should employ all appropriate means to achieve this.

The father must fulfill what Allah has obligated him to do with his wealth, such as paying zakat and providing for his wife and young children. If he fails to do so, he is sinful. The wife is permitted to take from his wealth, without his permission, what is sufficient for her and her young children. As for adult children who are able to earn a living, they have no right to his wealth.

The Muslim ruler is the one who collects zakat from him and compels him to pay it. No one else has the right to interfere between him and his wealth. Rather, their duty is to encourage him to perform what Allah has made obligatory upon him.
