What is the ruling on praying in shoes?

It is permissible to pray with pure shoes in any place, including the mosque, based on prophetic hadiths, among them what was narrated from Anas that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to pray in his shoes, and his saying, peace and blessings be upon him: "Be different from the Jews, for they do not pray in their shoes or their khuffs (leather socks)." However, after mosques were carpeted, it is preferable to remove shoes to maintain the cleanliness of the carpets and prevent harm to the worshippers.
