Is priority, preference, and closeness to the Sunnah understood to be for praying in a mosque carpeted with clean socks rather than praying barefoot, based on Allah’s saying: "O Children of Adam, take your adornment at every place of prayer" (7:31) and the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: "Act against the Jews, for they do not pray in their sandals or their khuff (leather socks)"?

It is recommended for the worshipper to come to the mosque in his best appearance and most beautiful clothes, based on the saying of Allah the Almighty: "O Children of Adam, take your adornment at every mosque," and based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "When one of you prays, let him wear his two garments; for Allah is most worthy of adornment."

Praying with clean sandals or khuffs (leather socks) is permissible, just as it is permissible to leave them off during prayer. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, sometimes prayed barefoot and sometimes with footwear. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded to differ from the Jews who do not pray in their sandals. He also stated that Gabriel came to him and informed him that there was filth on his sandals, and that if a worshipper sees filth or harm on his sandals, he should wipe it off and pray in them.

The reason for not bringing shoes into mosques today and praying in them is not to prevent praying in shoes, but rather out of concern for dirtying the mosque's carpet with dust or other impurities.
