Is it wrong to pray while wearing shoes?

For the prayer to be valid, the body, clothes, and place must be pure. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to pray in his sandals if they were not impure. If they were impure, it was obligatory to remove them. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded praying in sandals to differ from the Jews.

However, in currently carpeted mosques, one should not enter with sandals to preserve the cleanliness of the mosque and the safety of the furnishings. This Sunnah can be applied in uncarpeted places such as gardens and deserts, while teaching people the Sunnah to avoid disapproval.
