The question

Will he who enters Paradise after torment in Hell be among those who received their Book in their right hand or in their left? And will he who receives his Book in his right hand enter the Fire and be tormented therein before entering Paradise? If so, what is the secret behind his joy and his saying: "Here, read my Book!"?

The answer

The disobedient Muslim will receive his book in his right hand on the Day of Resurrection, and only the disbeliever will receive his book in his left hand. This is the preponderant opinion among the Sunnis and the Community, such as Ibn Baz, Al al-Sheikh, and Al-Fawzan.

Receiving the book in the right hand does not preclude some monotheists from entering Hellfire due to their sins and then being extracted from it, while disbelievers will abide eternally therein.

Allah Almighty's saying: (Then as for him who is given his record in his right hand, He will have an easy reckoning, And return to his family in joy.) Al-Inshiqaq/ 7-9, describes the state of the pious believers who will enter Paradise without punishment.

As for the disobedient monotheist, he will rejoice upon receiving his book in his right hand, then he may grieve due to punishment, then he will rejoice upon entering Paradise. Meanwhile, the pious will rejoice and not grieve. The inhabitants of Paradise will vary in their stations and joys according to their deeds.
