If Allah does not answer prayers, nor remove distress or hardship, then why is He worshipped? What is the difference between worshipping Him and worshipping others? To whom should a servant turn in disasters and calamities? What is the benefit of supplicating to Him if He will only grant patience in trials without removing them?

A person must worship God because He is the Creator and the Bestower of blessings upon him. God is independent of His creation's worship, and their worship is for their own benefit. God is not affected by anyone's worship or abandonment of it. Furthermore, God alone answers prayers and removes evil, not any other creature. The answering of prayers depends on conditions and impediments. Among its conditions are: sincerity to God, not supplicating for a sin or cutting off ties of kinship, and supplicating with a present heart certain of the answer. Among the reasons for answered prayers are: praising God, sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him), raising the hands, persistent supplication, seeking out times when prayers are answered, and consuming lawful things. If a prayer is not answered, it may be due to a flaw in the supplicant, or for a benefit that God deems better for the servant.
