What is the ruling on entering the restroom with banknotes that have Quranic verses on them?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is disliked for someone entering the lavatory to carry papers or money that contain the name of Allah or Quranic verses. This is based on what was narrated by Anas, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to remove his ring, which was engraved with "Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah," when entering the lavatory. Scholars differed regarding entering with a Mushaf (copy of the Quran), and most of them deemed it forbidden. However, it is permissible to enter with any of these if there is a fear of loss.
