The answer

The hadith "Learn magic, but do not practice it" is false and not authentically attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Allah Almighty has clarified in His Noble Book that learning and teaching magic is an act of disbelief (kufr), as He says: (And they followed what the devils recited during the reign of Solomon. And Solomon did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic...) [Al-Baqarah: 102]. Thus, learning and teaching magic is an act of disbelief and causes harm in this world and the Hereafter. Some scholars have used this verse as evidence to declare anyone who learns magic a disbeliever, and that learning it is an act of disbelief by consensus. Therefore, it is obligatory for a Muslim to beware of magic.
