Is it legislatively preferable to go to a Quran memorization school or to look for work for someone who is thirty-two years old?

Seeking sacred knowledge is a tremendous endeavor, and it includes learning and teaching the Qur'an. Memorizing the entire Qur'an is not an individual obligation (fard al-ayn), except for Al-Fatiha. Earning a livelihood is required to maintain self-sufficiency and avoid begging people, and it is obligatory for anyone who is responsible for their own or their family's sustenance and does not possess what to spend. If you are not responsible for providing for anyone, or if you have already secured their needs, then memorizing the Qur'an is superior, especially if you intend to teach it. Knowledge is better than supererogatory acts of worship because its benefit extends to both its possessor and the Muslims.
