How should a person who repented from heinous sins that he committed openly in front of his friends act when they ask him to talk about them and tempt him to do so? Should he deny those sins and walk away, or should he declare his repentance to them and refuse to discuss it?
Whoever repents with sincere repentance, fulfilling its conditions, Allah will accept his repentance; for repentance erases what came before it, as stated in the Hadith: "The one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin." Allah rejoices at the repentance of His servant, and He loves those who repent, and He transforms their evil deeds into good ones, and the heart becomes closer to Allah. As for dealing with friends who remind you of the sin, make it clear to them that you have repented and do not wish to be reminded of it, and ask them not to talk about it. If they refuse, then leave their gathering, and associate with righteous people who remind you of Allah, and stay away from the places of sin that you were accustomed to.
