Is it permissible to divorce a wife who cannot conceive (knowing that the husband was aware of her infertility beforehand and she agreed not to have children) to enable her to marry another, hoping he might have children with her, especially since she desires to conceive and does not wish to be divorced?

A wife has the right to request a divorce if the husband refuses to have children, due to her dire need for a child. Children are the adornment of worldly life, and if the wife is righteous, it is better to keep her; perhaps Allah will bless you with a righteous child. It is permissible to conceive through artificial insemination if it is done using only the husband's sperm and the wife's egg, and there are other impermissible forms. It is permissible for a husband to divorce his wife to marry and have children, but if he keeps her and helps her conceive through permissible insemination, that is better.
