The answer

Committing intentional breaking of the fast during the day in is considered a grave sin that necessitates sincere repentance. If the breaking of the fast was through sexual intercourse, expiation is required, which is the freeing of a slave. If one is unable to do so, then fasting for two consecutive months. If one is unable to do so, then feeding sixty needy persons. However, if it was by means other than sexual intercourse, the preponderant opinion is that expiation is not required, but making up the missed days is obligatory in both cases. If Eid al-Adha is reached by someone who is observing a consecutive fast, they should break their fast on the day of Eid and the days of Tashreeq, and then complete the remainder of their fast. If one begins fasting by the calculation of the new moons, then the entire month is sufficient. However, if one begins during the middle of the month, then they must complete thirty days.
