How can the revelation of the verse "And We have enjoined upon man [to be good] to his parents: his mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship" be reconciled with its descent concerning Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq upon his parents' acceptance of Islam, given the narrations indicating Abu Quhafah's conversion to Islam during the year of the Conquest, especially since the Surah is Makkan?

What was mentioned as a problem is correct. The conversion of Abu Quhafah to Islam took place in the year of the Conquest. The reason for the revelation of the aforementioned verse, as mentioned by Al-Tabari and Al-Wahidi, is that it was revealed concerning Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him. However, Al-Tabari did not mention a chain of narration (isnad), and Al-Wahidi mentioned that Ibn Abbas said it was revealed concerning Abu Bakr when he reached forty years of age, after his conversion to Islam and his affirmation of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Abu Bakr had accompanied the Prophet before his prophethood.

However, the authenticity of the story cannot be definitively confirmed. Some exegetes tend to believe that the verse is general. Ibn Atiyah mentioned that this interpretation does not align with the fact that Abu Quhafah's conversion to Islam was during the Conquest, but it is possible that Abu Bakr hoped for the faith of his parents.
