What is the ruling on abandoning a sin out of love for a created being, such as saying, "I will abandon this sin out of love for the Family of the Prophet (Ahl al-Bayt)," or "I will not disobey Allah Almighty out of love for the Family of the Prophet (Ahl al-Bayt)"?

A servant is saved from disobedience if their abandonment of it is out of fear and veneration of Allah; as stated in the Almighty's words: ﴿But as for he who feared the station of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination, then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge.﴾ (An-Nazi'at: 40-41). As for abandoning disobedience out of veneration for a created being, it is a form of polytheism; because abandoning sins is an act of worship, and worship is due to none but Allah. Abandoning disobedience for the sake of Allah is rewarded, whereas abandoning it for other than Allah is punished, because it is an act of the heart. And whoever intends to commit a sin and abandons it out of fear of created beings or to show off to them, may be punished for this abandonment, because preferring the fear of created beings over the fear of Allah is forbidden.
