What is the difference between as-siddiqin (the truthful/sincere) and al-muqarrabin (those brought near to God), and which of them is better and more elevated in the sight of Allah Almighty?
The truthful (siddiqūn) are the followers of the messengers who adhered to their methodologies, or they are those who believed in the entire religion without doubt. This is the highest level of truthfulness and complete submission to the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, along with complete sincerity to the Sender. Their status is the highest after prophethood. As for the foremost (muqarrabūn), they are those whom Allah has brought near to His proximity in His Gardens. They are the forerunners, and they may be those who performed the obligations and supererogatory acts, and refrained from prohibitions, disliked acts, and some permissible acts out of asceticism. The foremost (muqarrabūn) is a broader and more comprehensive category, encompassing prophets, the truthful, martyrs, and the righteous. However, truthfulness (siddiqiyah) is a special, high rank after prophethood.
