The answer

Neither Sydney, nor Abu Dhabi, nor Bahrain, nor Jeddah are designated Miqats for Hajj or Umrah for those who do not reside there. It is obligatory to enter into the state of Ihram while airborne when passing over the first Miqat for those coming to Mecca for Hajj or Umrah. One may inquire about the Miqat before passing over it. There is no harm in forming the intention and uttering the Talbiyah for Ihram before the Miqat, out of fear of overshooting it. It is permissible to prepare for Ihram by performing ghusl (ritual bath) and donning the Ihram garments anywhere.
