How can one be saved from evil?

Salvation from evil is achieved by adhering to Allah's command and avoiding the paths of Satan. This is done by committing to righteous environments, associating with good people, engaging in learning and good deeds, and abandoning bad gatherings and their companions.

Scholars have mentioned four matters that help one to commit to righteousness: 1. Stipulation (Al-Musharatah): To stipulate to oneself to abandon evil and adhere to the fear of Allah and His obedience. 2. Vigilance (Al-Muraqabah): To observe oneself to see if it has fulfilled what was stipulated to it. 3. Accountability (Al-Muhasabah): To hold oneself accountable for actions and words. 4. Striving (Al-Mujahadah): To compel oneself to obey Allah and oppose whims and Satan.

Among what also helps with righteousness is abandoning anger. If a person does not get angry, then he has abandoned all evil. The treatment of anger involves several matters: Disciplining oneself to be adorned with noble character traits such as forbearance and patience. Self-control and remembering the consequences of anger and the virtue of suppressing rage and forgiveness. Allah Almighty says: {And those who suppress anger and pardon people—and Allah loves the doers of good.}. Seeking refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan. Allah Almighty says: {And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.}. Changing the state one is in while angry. If standing, one should sit; if that does not remove it, one should lie down. Refraining from speaking. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "If one of you gets angry, let him be silent." Performing ablution, because anger is from Satan, and Satan was created from fire, and water extinguishes fire.
