Is walking barefoot a Sunnah?

It is desirable to walk barefoot sometimes, following the example of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to accustom oneself to a simple and ascetic life, provided that this is done in a safe place that does not cause harm or injury, and that sandals are available when needed.
