A suitor's choice of a girl falls into two categories: Either his choice is based on her religiosity and character, in which case he can inform her father of the reason easily and truthfully, citing the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying, "Choose the religious one, and you will prosper." Or his intention is wealth or beauty, in which case he cannot be truthful because it is an ugly intention, and lying is forbidden for him. He can, however, use circumlocutions to answer without lying or falling into what is reprehensible.
