The answer

Supplication, patience, and remembrance of Allah are among the best ways to overcome marital problems. The husband must be dutiful to his mother and treat his wife well. He should provide her with independent housing if it is not available, as she is not legally obliged to live with his family. The mother is not entitled to interfere in the couple's life except for their benefit and for giving advice. The husband is not obliged to obey his mother in matters that harm him or his wife. The wife's obedience to her husband is obligatory in what is good and relates to marriage, but not in what he wants to do to please his mother that has no relation to marriage. The husband must be dutiful to his mother without wronging his wife, and the wife should assist him in this. Both of them must preserve affection between them.
