Is a young man's marriage to a girl from a bad family background, which his parents and family vehemently opposed for legitimate and social reasons, Islamically valid, and what is the required Islamic stance for him regarding this marriage, and is honoring one's parents given precedence over this relationship, and what is the Islamic consequence of divorcing her after previous promises, and what is the ruling on his family boycotting him if he insists on the marriage?

"The permission of the parents is not a condition for the validity of the marriage contract. However, the wife's abandonment of prayer might invalidate the contract according to those who consider the one who abandons prayer to be a disbeliever. In such a case, the marriage must be annulled, and it is permissible to renew it after her repentance. If the son wrote or uttered the divorce, it has taken effect, unless it was a future-tense expression. If the divorce has occurred or the contract is invalid, then it is imperative for the son to leave her in response to his parents, and in consideration of her bad qualities and her family, due to the corruptions and harms inherent therein.

The son must honor and obey his parents, especially his mother, and avoid anything that harms them. Some scholars have issued fatwas that it is obligatory to divorce the wife if the father commands it, while others view it as recommended. This is strongly affirmed here due to the presence of significant corruptions. Even if the marriage is still valid and has not been annulled, we call upon him to separate from the wife due to her aforementioned condition and that of her family, and the harm that results for his parents from continuing the marriage.

We advise the parents not to boycott the son if he insists on his position, as boycotting might make him more resolute and could harm him. Rather, they should pray for his righteousness and remind him of the rights of parents."
