How can the denial of hearing by the dwellers of Hellfire in His (the Most High) saying: (And they will not hear therein) (Al-Anbiya/100), be reconciled with the affirmation of their dialogue with Allah, the keeper of Hell, and the dwellers of Paradise?

The interpretation of the verse: ﴿For them therein is sighing, and they will not hear therein﴾ has two explanations:

The first: That the people of Hell will hear at first, then they will become unable to hear due to their isolation and confinement in coffins of fire, as Ibn Mas'ud said.

The second: That the intention is that they will not hear anything that pleases them, for they will be resurrected deaf, mute, and blind. They will hear nothing but the sound of those who torment them. And after Allah Almighty says to them: ﴿Remain humiliated therein and do not speak to Me﴾, they will become deaf and mute. This indicates that hearing, sight, and speech will be returned to them afterwards, but they will not benefit from them.
