Is it obligatory for a girl to take a job after graduation in order to please her parents and help them with expenses, even if she wishes to stay at home to avoid facing a work environment that she fears might negatively affect her religion, acts of worship, and her legal dress (jilbab)?

The default is for a woman to remain in her home, and she should not go out except out of necessity, while adhering to the manners of Islam, such as wearing the legal hijab and maintaining proper conduct. For a woman to go out to work, it is a condition that the work be permissible, free from unlawful mixing, immodest display (tabarruj), and private seclusion (khalwa). If there are any of these prohibitions, or some of them, then she is not obligated to work, especially if her father is providing for her. Disobeying parents regarding work is not considered disobedience (uqooq) if there are prohibitions. Her insistence on wearing a modest jilbab is evidence of the sincerity of her faith, not extremism. Weakness of faith in places of temptation is natural; therefore, Allah commanded avoiding places of temptation. The questioner should remain in her home unless she finds work that has no prohibitions, and she should try to gently persuade her parents and choose righteous companionship. She is also advised to seek a righteous husband.
