Why did Lot (peace be upon him) offer his daughters to his people, when Allah had already revealed to him that they would be destroyed, as stated in His Almighty words: "And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by morning"?

The Quranic verses clarify that Allah informed Lot of the destruction of his people. Ibn Ashour indicates that the meaning of "We decreed" (قضينا) is "We destined" or "We revealed," and that the command was to cut off their roots, meaning their complete extermination in the morning.

Regarding Lot offering his daughters to his people, scholars have differed on the meaning of "my daughters." Al-Tabari, Qatadah, Mujahid, and Sa'id ibn Jubayr held that it referred to the women of his nation, as Lot commanded them to marry them lawfully instead of committing indecency, for every prophet is a father to his nation. Al-Razi, however, believed that it did not refer to his biological daughters because their number would not suffice the large gathering; rather, the women of his nation were sufficient.

As for the order of events in the verses, it is not chronological but rather a sequence of mention. Surah Hud indicates that Lot dialogued with his people and offered them his daughters before he knew that his guests were angels, and this was before they informed him of the destruction of his people. The conjunction "wa" (و) in the coordinated clauses does not necessitate chronological order. Ibn Kathir, Al-Tafsir Al-Wasit, and Ibn Ashour all affirm that Lot's dialogue with his people took place before he knew that the guests were messengers of Allah.
