What should a gas station attendant do who cannot leave his work at the time of Friday prayer, and the station owner asks him not to sell at this time, knowing that travelers might frequent the station? Should he sell or not?

Friday prayer is an individual obligation upon every Muslim. If a worker is close enough to the mosque to hear the adhan (call to prayer), he is obligated to leave his work and perform the prayer. However, if he is far from the town and cannot hear the call, then it is not obligatory for him, and he prays Dhuhr (noon prayer) instead. If the worker is close and Friday prayer is obligatory for him, but he fears that his workplace might be stolen from, then he is permitted to be absent. If the worker has a valid excuse for absence, he is not allowed to sell to those for whom Friday prayer is obligatory, from the time of the second adhan until the prayer concludes. This is based on the verse: "O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumuʿah (Friday), then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade." (Al-Jumu'ah/9). Selling at this time is forbidden and invalid. However, selling to those for whom Friday prayer is not obligatory (such as travelers and women) is permissible. The worker must adhere to the employer's instructions to refrain from selling during prayer time, unless the buyer has a valid excuse and urgently needs fuel, and there is no other nearby station; in this case, selling is permissible, with the worker's understanding with the station owner.
