Is it permissible to marry a Muslim woman who has previously consumed alcohol, and will the difference in her relatives' religion affect the the children's future?

Dating between non-mahram men and women for the purpose of marriage is a gateway to temptation (fitna), and whoever wishes to propose to a woman should approach homes through their proper doors. The criterion for choosing a wife is her religious commitment and good character. It is preferable to seek a Muslim woman who possesses religious devotion and good character, and who comes from a righteous family. There is no impediment to your marrying a chaste Muslim woman who has repented from drinking alcohol, even if her relatives are not Muslim. After performing Istikhara (prayer for guidance), the preponderant view is that one should proceed with the matter and not abandon it unless Allah diverts them from it.
