Is it permissible to sacrifice a pregnant animal, and what is to be done with the fetus if sacrificing it is permissible?

The sacrificial offering is valid with a pregnant sheep, as long as there is no other impediment. If the fetus emerges alive, it must be slaughtered according to Islamic rites to be permissible for consumption. However, if it emerges dead, the majority of scholars hold that it is permissible to eat it, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The slaughtering of the fetus is the slaughtering of its mother."
