Does dry impurity transfer from clothes to the body, or from the body to carpets, furnishings, and the mosque? What is the ruling on a mother touching an impure shoe with a wet hand and then wiping the floor with it? Does impurity transfer from dry semen on the hand to touched objects? And what must be done to purify an impure garment, and how many times must it be washed?

The questioner must specify the type of impurity and its location. If the impurity is dry and the body is dry, the impurity does not transfer, which is agreed upon. However, if the impurity becomes wet and touches the body:

- If the impurity has a physical substance (like blood or excrement) and some of it transfers to the body, then what affected the body must be purified for prayer.

- If the impurity does not have a physical substance (like urine), or if its physical substance has disappeared but its ruling remains, and then its location becomes wet and touches the body, the ruling of impurity does not transfer.

It is not obligatory to purify the areas affected by the wetness of a dry impurity because the physical substance of the impurity is not present, and its ruling does not transfer. This is the view held by most Maliki scholars. The default state of things is purity until proven otherwise.

As for mixing impure clothes with pure ones, all must be washed if the impure ones are not known. Otherwise, only the impure ones should be cleaned. Pure clothes do not become impure by touching dry impure clothes. There is no specific number of washes for a garment; it is sufficient to be certain that the impurity has been removed with pure water.
