Is it permissible to slaughter one aqeeqah for a male newborn and send it all to the wife's family due to inability to slaughter two?

It is permissible to send the aqiqah, whether whole or in parts, to the wife's family after slaughtering it, or to send it to them before slaughtering it so they may slaughter it. There is no harm in slaughtering one sheep for a male child, though two sheep are more complete for those who can afford it. The aqiqah is not valid with a small sheep that has not reached the age of the sacrificial animal (udhiyah).
