Is it permissible to learn vocal مقامات (maqamat) to improve one's voice when reciting the Holy Quran?

It is commendable to recite the Qur’an slowly and clearly (tartil) and to beautify one's voice with it, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Beautify the Qur'an with your voices," and his saying: "He is not of us who does not chant the Qur'an melodiously." When the Prophet (peace be upon him) admired Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari's recitation, he said to him: "You have been given a flute from the flutes of the family of David." Beautifying the voice means adhering to the rules of recitation and tajwid, and perfecting the articulation points of the letters in performance. As for musical maqamat (modes), they are a newly introduced discipline that has no connection to the science of recitations (qira'at). It originated in the environments of singers and is associated with musical instruments, so it is not permissible to learn or teach them. Nor is it permissible to apply the term "maqam" to the beautification of the voice, due to its innovated nature (bid'ah) and its negative origins. However, it is permissible to imitate the voice of a famous reciter known for the beauty of his pronunciation and performance.
