What is the ruling on imams and those in similar positions who shave or trim their beards and let their garments hang below the ankles, and what is the effect of this on their role as exemplars for the people?

A Muslim is required to emulate the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and it is not permissible for him to abandon the Sunnah due to the actions or words of anyone.

People of knowledge and exemplary figures must be more committed to the Sunnah because people follow their example. They should be a good model in everything; a scholar is an exemplar through his patience, piety, and actions, just as a caller to Allah should possess righteous deeds and noble character to invite others through his words and actions.
