What is the ruling on human cloning and the resulting family rulings such as lineage, marriage, and inheritance?

Allah created humankind and honored them, adorning them with intellect and ennobling them with responsibility. He made them vicegerents on Earth and honored them by entrusting them with His message, which aims to preserve human nature by safeguarding the five essential universal objectives (Maqasid al-Shari'ah): religion, life, intellect, progeny, and property. Islam does not impose restrictions on the freedom of scientific research if it is beneficial and does not contradict the objectives of Sharia, and it preserves human dignity.

Cloning is the creation of one or more living organisms by transferring the nucleus from a somatic cell into an enucleated egg, or by splitting a fertilized egg at a stage prior to tissue and organ differentiation. These processes do not represent creation; rather, they are an utilization of Allah's cosmic laws.

The Council has therefore decided the following: 1. The prohibition of human cloning by all methods that lead to human reproduction. 2. If the aforementioned Sharia ruling is transgressed, the implications of such cases shall be presented to determine their Sharia rulings. 3. The prohibition of all cases in which a third party is introduced into the marital relationship (womb, egg, sperm, somatic cell for cloning). 4. It is permissible under Sharia to adopt cloning and genetic engineering techniques in the fields of microbes, microorganisms, plants, and animals, within Sharia controls, to achieve benefits and prevent harms.
