Is it permissible for a woman to seek divorce from her husband who married her to obtain residency, mistreats her, disregards her presence, does not desire to form a family, and does not take her with him when he travels to visit his family?

Efforts should be made to reconcile between the spouses and remind each of them of their rights and duties. This precedes any thought of divorce, as Allah Almighty says: (There is no good in much of their private conversation, except for whoever enjoins charity or good or reconciliation between people), and His saying: (And if you fear dissension between them, send an arbitrator from his people and an arbitrator from her people. If they both desire reconciliation, Allah will cause agreement between them). If these means are not effective and the woman is harmed, she is permitted to request a divorce. However, it is not permissible to request a divorce without distress or harm, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: (Any woman who asks her husband for divorce without any distress, the scent of Paradise will be forbidden to her).
