Is it permissible to marry a young man of faith and good character, who is a حافظ (Hafiz, memorizer) of the Book of Allah, but who belongs to the Tijaniyya Zawiya (Sufi order)?

It is not permissible to marry someone who belongs to the Tijaniyya Sufi order, because it is a grave innovation (bid'ah mughallazhah) and contains beliefs that lead to apostasy for those who hold them. Among these beliefs are:

1. The exaggeration of its followers regarding its founder, Ahmed al-Tijani, to the point of exceeding the characteristics of prophethood and divinity. 2. Their belief in fanaa' (annihilation) and wahdat al-wujud (unity of existence), and al-Tijani's claim that he is at the highest peak of this state. 3. Their belief that divine sustenance (madad) flows from Allah to the Prophet, then to the Prophets, then from the Prophets to al-Tijani, and then from him to all creation. 4. Al-Tijani's bad manners and aggression towards other saints (awliya') by saying: "My foot is on the neck of every saint." 5. His claim to know the unseen and to control hearts. 6. His heresy in interpreting Allah's verses and distorting them through allegorical interpretation (tafsir ishari). 7. Their claim that every Tijani will enter Paradise without reckoning or punishment. 8. Their claim that the Salat al-Fatih (which they invented) was not taught by the Messenger to any of his companions because he knew its time would be delayed and that there would be no one to reveal it except al-Tijani. 9. Their belief that one recitation of Salat al-Fatih is equivalent to all glorification (tasbeeh), remembrance (dhikr), supplication (du'a), and Quranic recitation six thousand times, and that whoever does not believe it is from the Quran will not receive its reward. 10. Their claim that al-Tijani will have a pulpit of light on the Day of Resurrection and a call will be made: "O people of the standing! This is your Imam from whom you used to receive sustenance without your awareness."

These false beliefs make the Tijaniyya one of the most misguided and corrupt Sufi orders, and cause its adherents to depart from the fold of Islam.
