Is lack of understanding, the husband's frequent preoccupation, feelings of aversion and occasional hatred towards him, and his repeated desire for intercourse without regard for the wife's fatigue or illness (such as fever and menstruation), considered sufficient reason to request a divorce?

Divorce is a last resort for complex marital problems, and all possible means should be exhausted before resorting to it. It is advisable to weigh the pros and cons, and a calm dialogue session might restore harmony. Both spouses should review their shortcomings in fulfilling God's rights, for sins are the root of every ailment, and repentance and seeking forgiveness are the foundation of every cure.

If cohabitation between the spouses becomes impossible and understanding cannot be reached, there is no blame upon the wife for seeking divorce, as did the wife of Thabit ibn Qays.

If the husband desires sexual intercourse during menstruation, the wife must refuse to obey him in that and remind him of its prohibition. If he does not desist and transgresses God's limits, this is a sufficient reason to seek separation.
