What is the ruling regarding a wife staying with her husband who consumes alcohol, smokes, lies constantly, beats her, and mistreats her, even though he helps with household chores and loves his children? And what should a wife do if she is beaten and humiliated by her husband in front of her mother who came to visit her? And should the wife allow her mother to leave while in this state?

It is advisable to be patient with the husband, to counsel him in the best manner, and to make frequent supplications for him. If he insists on drinking alcohol, the wife has the right to request a divorce, while balancing the benefits of divorce and remaining married. It is forbidden for the wife to search her husband's car without his knowledge, and she must repent for doing so. The husband should strive to keep his wife chaste as much as possible and treat his in-laws well. It is not permissible to swear by anyone other than Allah.
