Is it permissible to run an advertising campaign for goods sold in a commercial store?
Promotional advertisements and campaigns do not fall outside the general framework of regulations governing transactions in Islamic Sharia. To avoid transgressions, several regulations must be observed:
1. Good intention: Informing people about the advantages of goods and services.
2. Truthfulness: The advertisement must correspond to the reality of the good, avoiding exaggeration, for the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "The two parties to a transaction have the option to annul it as long as they have not separated. If they are truthful and clarify, their transaction will be blessed. But if they conceal and lie, the blessing of their transaction will be erased."
3. Avoiding deceit and fraud: Not beautifying the good or concealing its defects.
4. Not disparaging others' goods: Avoiding belittling or harming others, for the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself," and his saying: "There shall be no harm nor reciprocating of harm."
5. Not advocating extravagance and waste: As they are among the forbidden acts in Sharia. Allah Almighty said: "And do not be extravagant. Indeed, He does not like those who are extravagant," and He said: "Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils."
6. Not violating the sanctity of Sharia: Avoiding the promotion of forbidden things or associating with evil acts such as music and the display of women.
7. Reasonable costs: The costs should not be exorbitant such that the consumer bears them, thus raising prices.
