Has my sense of protective jealousy (gheerah) died, and if it has, how can I revive it?

A man's jealousy over his family is commendable and indicates chivalry and manliness. Abandoning it is blameworthy both religiously and naturally. This falls under defending one's honor, and whoever dies in its defense is a martyr, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever is killed defending his family is a martyr." As for a lack of jealousy, it is a characteristic of the dayyuth (one who has no jealousy over his womenfolk), for whom a severe warning has been mentioned. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Three will not be looked at by Allah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection: one who disobeys his parents, a woman who imitates men, and a dayyuth."
