Are those oppressed by illness, death, poverty, and humiliation unjust, deviant, and arrogant? What is the divine wisdom behind the afflictions that befall children and others? Do God's names "Al-Qahir (The Subduer)" and "Al-Qahhar (The Irresistible)" contradict His names "Al-Hakim (The Wise)" and "Al-Rahman (The Most Gracious), Al-Rahim (The Most Merciful)"?

Al-Qahhar is one of Allah's Beautiful Names, meaning: The One who conquers everything, overcomes it, and disposes of it as He wills. He is the Dominant over all creation, none can overcome Him or contend with Him, and everything is under His subjugation and authority. Allah's subjugation is universal for all His creation, whether they obey Him or disobey Him. This is a requirement of His Lordship, His power, and the perfection of His authority. Subjugation (Al-Qahr) is not synonymous with vengeance; rather, it stems from the perfection of Allah's power and wisdom. He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy. He is not to be questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned.
