Is a husband entitled to verbally abuse his wife and her family, taunt her with her divorced sisters, and hit the children, especially with his mother's continuous interference in their lives? Is the wife considered sinful for her silence regarding this treatment? And how can she ignore the mother-in-law's problems?

Islam has prohibited reviling Muslims and has deemed it an act of transgression (fisq). The sin is even greater if it comes from a husband towards his wife and in-laws. The husband must fear Allah and desist from such behavior. His wife should treat him with kindness and be patient with his harm. As for the mother, she must stop harming her son's wife and inciting him against her. The wife should not inform her family about the verbal abuse, unless doing so leads to resolving the problems. The wife has the right to demand a separate dwelling if she is harmed by living with the husband's mother.
