What is the meaning of "a woman of religion and character," and does religion not include character?

Combining religion and character in choosing a spouse for marriage is important for the continuity and goodness of the companionship. The mere religiosity of a person does not necessarily entail good character. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, drew attention to this and guided towards choosing someone with whom affection and love can be achieved. There is not always a necessary correlation between religion and character; a person may be religious without having good character, or vice versa, even though the principle is that religion enjoins good character.
